Creating a successful online shop for xmas

One of the biggest growing sectors of the internet is ecommerce, in the run up to christmas alone the UK is expected to spend over £7 billion online.

So for those of us with an online shop, or looking to open a new online shop, getting it right is imperitive, especilly at this time of year when christmas is quickly approaching.

There are a couple of things you can do on the run up to christmas to ensure your online shop makes you some serious profit:

Make sure your website has lots of inbound links, these are links that are from websites in the same industry, this will help your search engine rankings.

Test your website at least once a week, doing this will ensure you iron out any potential problems, test forms, adding / removing items from basket, how easy is the process etc

Ask your previous customers how they think you could improve, doing these improvements now will ensure your new xmas customers have the best experience

Start a newsletter, if you haven't already, its a great way to build your brand, perhaps run an offer for those people who pass it to thier friends, vouchers or something similar

Think about running a Google Adwords campaign, keep it very specific, perhaps for best selling products, and don't bother if you cant afford to spend alot, people need to see your ad EVERY time they search, having a low budget will knock your advert off

Get your products listed in Google Base, as this will provide valuable extra traffic

Run a xmas promotion like free delivery, everyone loves a freebie, and make sure you emphasise those hard-to-get products if you have them

There you, most of these are really things that should be carried out all of the time, but its always worth a little reminder.
